“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21
” And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:26
Jesus speaks to us in many ways, and often times it is in our own thoughts that he is guiding each one of us in a path of righteousness. Discerning our thoughts from what is coming from Jesus, vs our own human nature boils down to motivating factors. When we are having thoughts of selfish, resentful, or fearful nature then you can bet they are not Jesus. When our thoughts are loving and helpful toward others and ourselves, then you have Jesus whispering in your ear and didn’t even know it. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20) We need only make a choice to listen. At times, it is difficult because the world around us seems to be closing in, and we develop a limited confidence in what God can really do. We forget, or choose to ignore, just how mighty God is in each of our lives. I know it sounds like hogwash, ‘Ignore Jesus??? No way would I ever!’ Truth is we do in our everyday lives until we put forth the effort daily to listen for the reassuring, loving, and encouraging voice and act upon it, versus the voice that sends us worry, fear, and resentment. We renew our mind constantly to a greater understanding as we continue to listen to what Jesus is saying. Jesus’s voice will always be loving toward yourself, and toward all those around you.
